Ensuring the tourism economy enriches New Zealand is the topic of conversation at this week's Tourism New Zealand roadshows in Invercargill and Northland. This year we have invited along not only the tourism industry but also local government, investors and the technology sector. Why? Because the tourism economy presents significant opportunities across a range of sectors and ensuring tourism enriches New Zealand is only going to be possible with many of these sectors working together.

There has been a record turnout at the recent roadshows in Wellington and Christchurch proving that tourism presents incredible opportunities for New Zealand that are ripe for the picking.

I have been particularly pleased with how many of the industry stayed on for the brand storytelling and social media workshops component of the roadshows and it's great to hear feedback that these have been valuable for industry. Supporting industry grow their business by attracting and meeting visitor needs is something we will increase in the coming year through sharing more information about what our visitors are looking for and expecting from their time in New Zealand.

The roadshows have also been a good opportunity for us to report back to industry about how we have performed over the past financial year and talk about our focus for this one.

We had some great successes in FY18 and learnt some valuable insights that will inform our FY19 work. You can read more about this in the story below.

Ngā mihi,

Stephen England-Hall

Chief Executive, Tourism New Zealand
