Kia Ora THE

Last week, Kerry Prendergast and I had the pleasure of spending time with our Minister and the opportunity to talk through the impact of Tourism New Zealand's activity.

It was a positive meeting and the Minister clearly understands the role of tourism in the wider economy.

His thinking for us is also clear – tourism has a key role to play in supporting regional growth and our job is to continue building value, targeting shoulder season arrivals and growing the regions.

The Minister wants to explore how tourism and Māori economic development can be better aligned and I look forward to being part of that conversation in the weeks to come.

For the past two weeks I've been on the road providing strategic updates to industry. So far, we have presented in Queenstown, Rotorua and Auckland about the work we're doing.

Key discussion topics have included how we're using new data to drive decisions around our activity in the trade space; results from our current marketing campaign and the Bryce Dallas Howard campaign with National Geographic Travel; and our partnership with the Department of Conservation (DOC).

I'll be in Christchurch this Thursday before wrapping up our month-long road show in Wellington on Monday.

I hope to see you there.

Chief Executive, Tourism New Zealand
