Delta Pretty Much Tells China Southern to Kiss Off From SkyTeam (and Will Cathay Pacific Join Star?)

Delta owns a stake in China Eastern, the country's most subsidized airline giving them a presence in Shanghai especially. They've become even more linked, with Delta and China Eastern buying into and taking a board seat with Air France KLM along with Air France KLM taking an ownership stake in 49% Delta-owned Virgin Atlantic.

China Southern based out of Guangzhou has been left as something of a redheaded stepchild in Delta and Air France-driven SkyTeam. And American has gone ahead and invested $200 million in China Southern, giving them their own foothold into mainland China.

What Are The Most Rewarding Cards to Actually Use For Your Spending

I often list the best signup bonuses, or lists of which card is best for which category of spending. But what are the best cards for ongoing spend, spend that isn't needed to earn a signup bonus?

Hint: it isn't an airline miles card, for two reasons. First you're locked into earning miles with one airline rather than having points that transfer to a variety of airlines. But second and more importantly because they simply don't earn the most points.

Review: Cathay Pacific First Class, Hong Kong – Boston

I was flying Hong Kong - Boston after arriving from Singapore and spending some time in The Pier first class lounge.

We boarded on time and one other passenger came onboard with me at the front of the queue. He was the other first class passenger for the evening, and as we boarded he apologized to me.

Over 5/24? Get This Card

Chase wants to make sure you aren't getting its cards just for the signup bonus. Those bonuses are expensive and take awhile for them to earn back. So they won't approve new accounts for many of their products when the applicant has had 5 or more new credit cards within the past 24 months. That only excludes a very small portion of the population, a low single digit percent most likely, but the group has a high likelihood of continually switching products.
