Dear Friends,
As we approach the month of December, countries around the world are preparing for the 'the season.' Although it's of a different flavour than is found throughout the western world, the same festive spirit can be found throughout much of Asia as well. In addition to the occassional local dressed as santa or ornamental Christmas display around tourist areas and shopping malls, travellers in several countries in Asia can expect to encounter a few other noteable holidays as well. In Malaysia and Indonesia, celebrations will be underway on the first of the month to celebrate the birth of Muhammad in holidays known as Maulidur Rasul (Malaysia) and Maulid of Prophet (Indonesia). Concurrently, people in Laos will also be celebrating Lao National Day; later in the month they celebrate International New Year in enviable fashion by taking a national holiday on the preceding Friday (December 29) as well as the standard New Years Day. In Thailand, two holidays take place: H.M. the King's Birthday (December 5) and Constitution Day which takes place on Sunday the 10th, but will be made up for by most businesses on Monday the 11th. During these holidays, some of our offices will be closed. We've highlighted all the relevant dates below so you can make note of them on your calendar. Our 24hr customer care numbers -for use in emergencies and for in-country travellers only- are also detailed in case they are necessary during these times. Best wishes and happy holidays!
