| The business events industry in New Zealand is thriving and Tourism New Zealand continues to work with the sector to foster its growth and take it to the next level. Last week's MEETINGS, the annual event run by Conventions and Incentives New Zealand, showcased the high level of expertise and innovation we have in the business events sector. Globally, competition in the sector is fierce but New Zealand tends to punch above its weight, supported by exciting new infrastructure coming on board in Auckland and Christchurch and initiatives such as Tourism New Zealand's Conference Assistance Programme. In the past year alone, we have helped secure more than $86 million worth of business events that will be held in destinations across New Zealand in the shoulder seasons. From a fiscal perspective, business events are incredibly profitable for the country but the benefits go beyond dollars and cents. Business events are a key driver of the knowledge economy with delegates bringing knowledge and skills into the country. When matched with our own influential sector experts and industry players, New Zealand-based business events have the potential to result in positive global impacts like health and science advancements. | | Next month we will launch a refreshed global campaign to showcase New Zealand's unique business events offering, I look forward to sharing it with you. Ngā mihi, | Stephen England-Hall Chief Executive, Tourism New Zealand | | | | | | |
