As the holiday season draws near, all of us at EXO Travel would like to wish you, your team and your family a very joyous holiday and a travel-filled New Year.

In light of all the festive occasions taking shape across the world this month, we thought it would be appropriate to highlight some of the amazing tours we've developed that allow guests to experience the magic of Asia during its own holiday seasons firsthand.

From the more spiritually-centred New Year celebrations in Laos, to the loud and boisterous Baliem Valley Festival in Indonesia, and the spectacle of endless fireworks in Japan, here is a taste of some of the many ways our team of destination experts are constantly seeking out new ways to allow guests to 'Experience Our Asia.'

Malaysia: Art & Heritage

Usually celebrated July where George Town celebrates its World Heritage Day, the sleepy port town of Penang lights up and is abuzz with a month-long celebrations of arts, culture, heritage and community. Discover the best of Peninsula Malaysia beginning at Kuala Lumpur with a mid-stop in Penang to indulge in film screenings, heritage trails, exhibitions, international artist performances and more!

Laos: Pi Mai Laotian New Year

The most anticipated festivals in Laos, 'Pi Mai' or New Year is spent meaningfully at the spiritual capital of Luang Prabang. Observe and experience the traditional rituals of monks cleaning Buddha images, an old Lao tradition, 'Baci' and the exciting spectacle of Miss Pi Mai Parade. This is a cultural celebration of Laos that shouldn't be missed!

Japan: Fireworks Spectacle

Plan a trip to Japan during the months of July and August to catch a line up of fireworks displays all over the major towns in Japan. Go from Shirakawa-go toTokyo on this 14-day insightful tour to see the iconic sites and natural wonders and top it all off with the icing on the cake of spectacular sights of fireworks displays to welcome the summer.

 

Myanmar: Festive Mandalay

To mark the end of Buddhist Lent, get into the festive spirit in Mandalay with three consecutive festivals beginning with the unique Dancing Elephant Festival in Kyaukse, where the locals don a paper-mache elephant and compete dancing. Then join thousands of devotees at a serene pagoda festival and wander the bustling stalls at a lively evening celebration.   

Cambodia: Relax in Cambodian Coastal Ambience

Experience the rich colonial heritage and timeless charm of Kep from the Khmer capital of Phnom Penh during Khmer New Year on April 13 and 14. While enjoying a wide range of festivities for the celebration, kick back and relax while enjoying the unique ambience of this coastal gem. 

Thailand: The World's Biggest Water Fight

Besides being one of the sunniest times of the year, April is also marked by what may be Asia's most fun and festive holiday. Between April 12 and 15, head to the northern capital of Chiang Mai and experience the Thai New Year known as Songkran and join locals who flood the streets splashing water on each other to symbolically wash away the previous year and welcome in the new one. 

China: Harbin on Ice

A one-of-a-kind festival that must be added to the bucket list! Spend a full day wandering among the incredible ice sculptures displaying incredible technical mastery, attention to detail and skill. Take time to explore the other wonders of Harbin which sits on the cultural crossroads of Russia and China.

Indonesia: Tribal Festival of Papua

What better way to get to know an indigenous group's culture and rituals than to join in Papuan tribal festivities. Every year, in August, join in the annual spectacle of the Baliem Valley Festival where the many Papuan tribes come together for a week's carnival with an array of performances, traditional music, feasting and more.
