Tourism Australia Update

The final piece of our new global campaign, Come and Say G’day, was launched in New York last week where we premiered our short film ‘G’day’. Alongside the global launch event in New York, we held local in-market media and viewing events in Tokyo, Singapore, Mumbai, Frankfurt, Berlin, Paris and London. Already the film has been seen 93 million times across all channels with over 15 million views on our YouTube channel. We are holding an industry webinar this Friday, 28 October to provide an update on the campaign. I encourage you all to register for the webinar here.

As well as the new campaign a lot of other activities have been happening. On Saturday, the FIFA Women’s World Cup (FWWC) draw event was held in Auckland, with the FWWC to be held across Australia and New Zealand in June and July 2023. Further information on the FWWC is below.

In more sports news, we are currently hosting 12 prominent Indian content creators, who are travelling around the country while leveraging the popularity of the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup. On Sunday, the guests spent the day exploring Melbourne/Narrm culminating in attending the iconic India vs Pakistan T20 cricket match at the MCG with 100,000 fans. In great news – India won!

Last week we led a delegation of 40 Australians from 15 aviation partner organisations to Routes World 2022, and you can read more about this below.

In other exciting news, Seller applications for the Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE23) have opened. ATE23 will be held from 30 April to 4 May 2023 on the Gold Coast and will be delivered in partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland and supported by Destination Gold Coast. For further information and to apply, visit the ATE23 Website.

Finally, as parts of Australia continue to be affected by heavy rainfall and flooding, I would like to send out our thoughts and acknowledge the residents and businesses who are being impacted.

Australia’s Indigenous cultures and peoples heroed in new global campaign
Australia’s Indigenous cultures and peoples are truly at the heart of Tourism Australia’s new global campaign from Indigenous Australian languages spoken, to the stunning musical score and talent involved. In ‘G’day’ the short film you will hear Australian yidaki (or didgeridoo) player William Barton as well as the Iwiri Choir, singing in Pitjantnanjara, the language of the Anangu people. In the TVC, a cover of the universally-loved Aussie song ‘Down Under’ by Men At Work, has been reimagined by King Stingray with combination of English and their local language, Yolŋu Matha from north east Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory. You can listen to the song on Spotify here.
Tourism Australia Activity
Routes World 2022
Last week Tourism Australia led a delegation of 40 Australians from 15 aviation partner organisations to Routes World 2022 in Las Vegas from 15 to 18 October. This event marks the first occasion since September 2019 that ‘Team Australia’ aviation partners have come together at a global event overseas; Routes World 2019 was hosted in Adelaide/Tarntanya, Australia. Now in its 27th year, Routes World brings together over 2,000 decision makers from airlines, airports and destinations to accelerate global air connectivity. Senior decision makers from the world’s leading aviation organisations gather to discuss, develop and plan airline network strategy at the event with around 300 airlines, 700 airports, 130 tourism authorities from around the world attending.
FIFA Women’s World Cup Draw announced

Tourism Australia teamed up with Tourism New Zealand at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Draw Event in Auckland. The event at the Aotea Centre was attended by New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Arden, Australia’s Minister for Sport and Aged Care, Annika Wells, FIFA dignitaries and players from around the world. As part of the event the Draw decided which teams Australia (and New Zealand) will host during the Group match stage of the FWWC. The Tourism Australia and Tourism New Zealand stand activation highlighted the breadth and depth of travel experiences in the host cities and beyond. With thirty-two nations competing in the tournament, the most in any WWC ever, this will no doubt provide a much needed tourism boost. See the match schedule for an idea of where the teams will play in Australia here.
