| It's World Tourism Day, a day to celebrate the tourism sector's contribution to sustainable development. Something we are pretty big on at Tourism New Zealand. This year, the focus of World Tourism Day is the importance of digital technologies and the role they play in future proofing the sector by making it more customer centric and productive. This is something we talked about at our recent roadshow events and something we are going to talk even more about at our November events. We will be joined by some pretty special and well-known guests you won't want to miss, so make sure you get the dates below in your diaries. Sustainability in the sector is also a theme of the World Tourism Summit taking place in Hawaii next week. I'm proud to be representing New Zealand as the keynote speaker and talking about how, if managed well, tourism has the power to be transformative and really enrich a country and its people. A number of initiatives to achieve this in New Zealand are coming together. These are big projects being worked on by Government, the industry and the private sector. I look forward to sharing more as they take shape over the coming months. Today, Government announced that an International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy will be put in place. The levy is one of the initiatives being introduced to help ensure New Zealand is tourism ready. New Zealanders and international visitors value our natural environment and wildlife and funds from the levy will be used to fund conservation and tourism infrastructure. This will help protect and preserve these elements for the future enjoyment of Kiwis and visitors. Read more about the levy and how it will be collected below. | | Enjoy the rest of your week.
