Today marks the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Maria barreling ashore in Puerto Rico, killing thousands and destroying homes, communities, and hope. It was the defining blow of a vicious hurricane season that crippled tourism across the Caribbean.

Tourism Reporter Dan Peltier today assesses the rebound, who's ready for a new batch of winter tourists, and which destinations are still struggling. As part of his reporting, he talked to tourism officials about the lessons they have learned from such devastation. Thankfully, the 2018 hurricane season so far has not compared in scope to a year ago. But just the same, destinations are anxiously measuring their resilience against the memory of nature's unpredictable forces.
