Kia Ora THE

He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata. What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is people, it is people.

In our industry this could not be more accurate and here at Manaakitanga Aotearoa (Tourism New Zealand) we are able to achieve by working closely with industry.

This has especially been the case over the last couple of weeks with a range of events taking place across the globe made possible with industry support.

International trade events are an excellent way for us and industry to connect with travel sellers and showcase Aotearoa as a destination.

The recent South East Asia roadshow that included events in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines is a great example of this. Visitor arrivals from this region are on the rise and growing fast so it's important Aotearoa remains front of mind for consumers.

I encourage any operators who haven't been to one of our offshore trade events to seriously consider attending one in future. Getting your product directly in front of consumers before they arrive in the country is hugely beneficial for your business. Find out more about upcoming events here.

Some exciting events are also taking place here in Aotearoa. Last week we held a workshop with the business events industry to look at the wider benefits international business events deliver to New Zealand. There is no question that these events deliver big dollars, but they also deliver a range of positives that are good for Kiwis and our communities like knowledge sharing and innovation. It's important we start to understand and recognise these more. Read more about this below.

This week the i-SITE conference is taking place in Māwhera (Greymouth). The i-SITE network is an extremely important part of the visitor experience and its fantastic to get the team together to look at how we can build on this work.

There will be more about this event in the next issue of Tourism News.
