TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE

Last week the ABS released the international arrivals figures for April, and I am pleased to report that the positive trend is continuing. We were back to 78 per cent compared to the same month in 2019, which is up from 73 per cent in March and 65 per cent in February. Of course, some markets continue to return faster than others, and at this stage most arrivals to Australia came from New Zealand, the US and the UK.

We are also keeping a close eye on China, ahead of the launch of our Come and Say G’day campaign there at the end of next week. Travel from China only resumed at the start of this year, so it’s not at the same level as markets who have been returning to Australia since early 2022, but there are plenty of encouraging signs. In April arrivals from China returned to 33 per cent, up from 22 per cent in March, and given the size of the China market in 2019 just a third of arrivals already makes it our fifth largest inbound market.

This Friday we will be holding our June Industry Webinar. Further details on how to register are below
