A recent study found that travel agents who have certifications or specialist training make more money. That raises the question, how many certifications are too many?
A Travel Institute study shows the average compensation in 2017 for agents who had no certification or specialist training was $19,428. Conversely, agents who were Travel Institute-certified had average compensation of $42,953.
Sixty-five percent of agents said their clients most appreciate their product knowledge (things like the differences between cruise lines). Fifty-three percent said it was for their destination knowledge.
