American Airlines CEO: Firing Airline President Scott Kirby “Was One of the Worst Days of My Life”

At last week’s American Airlines employee town hall one flight attendant asked CEO Doug Parker whether he regrets American’s decision to let airline President Scott Kirby go and elevate Chief Operating Officer Robert Isom to the role of President. Passengers Kicked Off Delta After Woman Sasses Crew Who Insisted She Put Phone in Airplane Mode

Four passengers were kicked off of Saturday's Delta flight DL4527 from Fort Wayne to Atlanta as a result of a flight attendant and passenger arguing over putting a cell phone into airplane mode.

Since the ban on use of electronic devices during taxi and takeoff was lifted, passengers are still supposed to have devices in airplane mode (non-transmitting) once the doors of the aircraft are closed. However this is almost never enforced at all, and certainly not systematically, on the hundreds of flights I take in the U.S.

Chase Launched a New Hyatt Card. I Plan to Get it — Great For Anyone That Likes Hyatts

When Hyatt re-launched their loyalty program last year, their credit card was no longer useful for earning top tier elite status. And since Hyatt is a Chase transfer partner, it was no longer the most rewarding card for spending at Hyatt's hotels, even. Both of those problems change today.

I am a current Hyatt credit card customer, although recently I haven't been spending on the card. I am going to upgrade to this new card, and I plan to put a lot of spending on it.

Can You Book Rooms Now and Get a Marriott Points Refund in August?

Despite some information out there to the contrary -- you can book award rooms now to lock in availability, and then get any points price difference for the same room back in late summer or fall if the points price of the hotel drops. And that's true even if the hotel is sold out or is sold out of standard rooms.

Marriott Guts Travel Package Redemptions

Marriott offers 'travel packages' where you redeem points for airline miles and a seven night hotel stay (there are also 5 night packages, intended for timeshare owners, these have become tougher to get if you aren't a timeshare owner).

The value here is that you get transfers of points to miles at a rate that's good enough you're more or less getting a free hotel stay thrown in.

Chase’s 5/24 is Expanding

On Wednesday I attended a briefing with Chase and Hyatt executives about the new Hyatt co-brand card that launches today. I'll have more on that today.

We talked through the reasons for the new card benefits and had time for some question and answer. I asked about Chase's "5/24" rule.
