Europe Weekend Review: Marriott Tries Homesharing + Insight From Skift Forum Europe

April 28, 2018

Note From the Editor

AccorHotels CEO Sebastien Bazin was in a typically talkative mood during his appearance at our European Forum earlier this week, that is, up until Deanna Ting, Skift's Hospitality Editor, asked about a potential deal for Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts.

Stock market rules and the fact that the story broke before Bazin probably wanted it to, meant he had to fudge the answer. Over the last couple of years Accor has happily bought up companies from across the travel and leisure space and not just hotel companies. And, in this case, where there's smoke, there's probably fire.

Depending on the price, Mövenpick would be a nice pick-up for Accor, helping it add more luxury properties to its portfolio.

Flush with the proceeds from its property spin-off, we would bet on Accor making more acquisitions before the end of 2018.

Bazin's appearance will be one of many from our second European Forum that we'll be publishing online over the next few weeks, so keep an eye out. We'll do it all again next year in London.
