14 Things I Love About United’s Credit Card

The United MileagePlus® Explorer Card is a great tool for someone who flies United semi-regularly but not enough to earn elite status, since many of the benefits of the card approximate was entry-level status would be like. And you can get it now with bonus miles and not even pay an annual fee for the first year.

And it's good for someone looking to waive United's 'premier qualifying dollars' minimum spend for elite status (up to Platinum, the 75,000 mile tier) via credit card spend, as combined spend of $25,000 or more on a United co-brand credit card can take the place of that requirement for a U.S.-based member.

Why AAdvantage and Other Airline Frequent Flyer Program Profits Will Fall

United's President doesn't believe you know the difference between high and low value credit cards. You'll get the United credit card if you like travel and you live in a city where United offers the most service.

I've argued that's wrong, and American Airlines identified the reason why to the SEC.

Delta Walks Back Anti-NRA Stance After Pressure from Customers and Lawmakers

Delta should have the courage of its convictions. They have a choice. Shut up in the first place. Or if they're going to make political statements, stand by the them. This mealy mouthed stuff is just silly.

5 Best $0 the First Year Annual Fee Cards: Try Before You Buy and Pocket a Big Bonus

Cards without perks like airport lounge access, but that still earn transferrable points, usually run about a hundred dollars a year. However, some cards waive the annual fee for the first year. So you can earn a signup bonus and try the card at no cost.

The LifeMiles credit cards are promoting a special offer. Avianca's LifeMiles is a Star Alliance frequent flyer program, you can use the miles on United, Lufthansa and more.

The website shows offers of 20,000 and 30,000 mile signup bonuses. However with promo code LM17WB those become 40,000 and 60,000 mile offers instead. There's no minimum spend requirement, bonuses are awarded after one purchase.

How to Look Like an Idiot Trying to Upgrade to First Class

There's been tremendous coverage of this idiotic Bloomberg piece on how to score an upgrade every time.

It's a great example of the genre of travel writing 'how to upgrade' that contains advice which is 100% completely, patently false (you don't get a business class seat just by pretending it's your honeymoon).

I prefer equally silly -- and equally effective -- suggestions that might be a little more fun.
