Note From the EditorHot off the press — and yes, there are digital and print editions of this magazine — today we're launching the "Megatrends Defining Travel in 2018." Download, ponder and enjoy. It is the culmination of months of reporting, analysis and peering into our crystal ball about the forces that will shape travel in 2018..
One of the Megatrends highlights the dangers of rising neo-nationalism around the world, including very ugly messaging that the White House broadcasts every day. Separately, Tourism Reporter Dan Peltier writes about a new U.S. Travel Association-led coalition that is trying to convince the Trump Administration to reverse course and begin promulgating a more welcoming message for international visitors. While the association gets credit for enlisting new partners in the effort, the organization's accommodating and Washington-insidery style will likely bear little fruit. It's long past time to try to reason with the wayward Trump Administration. Hey, folks, that cruise ship has sailed. — Dennis Schaal, Executive Editor |
