The best of the internet, right here, right now
Happy Friday! Ready to find out what went down on the internet this week? There's plenty to catch up on, from Stephen King's microwave salmon (RIP to that microwave) to a new filter-less photo app, to the myth behind some infamous movie hair. But here are the *even* bigger stories that kept our eyeballs glued to our screens...for better or worse. Enjoy! ✨ |

Elon Musk Is Buying Twitter And Now We're All Nostalgic For Myspace Unless you've been totally off-grid (Jared Leto-style) for the past week, you know that Elon Musk has put in a bid to buy Twitter. Naturally, Twitter absolutely exploded into a frenzy with threats to log off permanently if the purchase goes through. A lot of them called for a return to the golden age of Myspace where, instead of trolls and bots, we simply had the soul-crushing "Top 8." Next up: Coca Cola? |

"Coastal Grandmother" Is TikTok's Latest Aesthetic Obsession Cream colored turtlenecks. Soft throw blankets. Fresh tomatoes from the garden. Ina freaking Garten. If you love these things, then you're probably a "coastal grandmother." This new aesthetic blowing up on TikTok is all about living the life of, essentially, a rich, white woman on the coast (there are subtle differences, depending on which coast). Lex Nicoleta started the trend but TikTok is now flooded with content from people living their best grandmotherly vibes. *Wraps myself in a cardigan to stare out the window.* |

| Twitter Roasted "Supernatural" Actor Misha Collins After He Came Out As Bi...Then Took It Back After asking the crowd at a fan convention to raise their hand if they were (respectively) introverts, extroverts, or bisexuals, the actor offhandedly muttered "I'm all three" as the crowd erupted into cheers and laughter. A video of the event quickly went around the internet, prompting Collins to tweet a response: "Uh, actually, I'm straight" (I paraphrased here). Some were disappointed, while some took the opportunity to roast him to smithereens, in meme form of course. |

"My Money Don't Jiggle Jiggle..." If those lyrics immediately trigger a song getting stuck in your head, you should probably take a break from scrolling TikTok. The sound — originally a rap from journalist Louis Theroux — went viral when two music producers laid autotune over it. Now, you'll see it over anything from dancing to babies to puppies. Theroux even joined the app just to utilize his own sound — just in time, since a new one will probably go viral in *checks watch* 24 hours! |

Eat: Have you guys tried this airfryer thing yet? Jk — I'm late to the game but officially obsessed with cooking everything in it, including this spicy salmon bowl. It's less stinky than a microwave, right? Watch: Russian Doll. New season. Enough said! Shop: Reader rec! Peggy just bought this ~fancy~ pepper mill and said even though it's a little pricey, it's been life-changing — high praise! Read: Reader rec! Jen's reading Under the Banner of Heaven, a true story that's just been adapted into a Hulu series starring Andrew Garfield. Mormons and murder? I'm in. Do: One of my favorite podcasts, Fictional, is back after a long hiatus and I couldn't be happier. It retells classic stories in an easy-to-digest and modern way. PS: Want *your* recs to be featured here? Reply to this email to tell me what you've been loving lately and your answer might be in next week's email! |
