TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE

With the nail-biting, unprecedented win for the Matilda’s against the French on Saturday evening, we are all digesting what this means for women’s sport in Australia and globally. And while all eyes are on Australia as the team prepare to face England tonight, here at Tourism Australia we continue to run our special FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ edition of the Come and Say G’day campaign Holiday Highlights in key markets around the world.

As the Matilda’s prepare to take on England’s Lionesses today in what is set to be an exciting semi-final, we have placed tactical advertisements (example above) in print media and digital out of home locations across England to capitalise on the friendly sporting rivalry between the two countries. The adverts, which are being displayed in key cities, humorously reminds Brits that no matter the result, a visit to Australia is always a winner and extend a warm invitation to ‘Come and Say G’day’.

With over 55 million views of the TVC already, the broader campaign continues to gain traction, as we capitalise on this very unique moment in time. We also continue to support the campaign by hosting international media including Arsenal football legend Ian Wright OBE. You can read more about what he’s been up to below.

In other big news this week, on Thursday China announced the reinstatement of Australia’s Approved Destination Status (ADS). Since the return of travel from our number one market, we have been encouraging more Chinese travellers to visit, most recently through the launch of our global Come and Say G’day campaign. Following the ADS announcement, over the weekend, China Southern Airlines’ announced the return of direct services between Guangzhou and Brisbane. As we welcome more visitors from China back to Australia, the return of aviation services is critical to rebuilding to 2019 levels of visitation and beyond.

Finally, our August industry webinar is coming up on Friday 25 August at 11am AEST. Details on how to register are below.
