TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE

After two successful Australia Marketplace Events in Singapore, South East Asia, Australia Marketplace North America wrapped up in Los Angeles today. This is an event that is critical to the work we do with our partners in North America to promote Australia in this important tourism market. This year we saw around 250 delegates attending, including a strong contingent of seller companies who shared their unique Australian tourism experiences with our buyer companies in North America. In terms of recovery, North America is going well, with total visitation for the last 12 months at 66 per cent of 2019 levels in the USA and at 72 per cent in Canada. Encouragingly, we have some solid forward projections, and our research is telling us that consideration is strong, driven by our ‘Come and Say G’day’ campaign.

Over the weekend the Garma 2023 festival was held on Yolngu Country in North East Arnhem Land, and you may have seen the resulting media coverage around Indigenous affairs and the Voice. At Tourism Australia, we launched our fifth Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) very recently, and I encourage you to take a look. At its heart is our commitment to not only share the story of the world’s oldest continuous living culture through our campaigns and Discover Aboriginal Experiences collective, but to strive to do more across our industry on our shared journey towards reconciliation.

Finally, what a great result for the Matilda’s with their 2-0 win over Denmark in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ on Monday. We wish them luck as they take on France this weekend. The tournament has officially recorded the highest attendance of all time and there are still eight games to go! Our special instalment of our ‘Come and Say G’day’ campaign, ‘Holiday Highlights’, continues to get strong traction internationally and now has over 37 million views.
