Welcome to the latest instalment of industry news from Business Events Australia, where we share updates on Tourism Australia’s current marketing and distribution activities to grow and support Australia’s business events industry.

Tourism Australia’s specialist business unit, Business Events Australia, was joined on the Australia stand by 30 Australian organisations at IMEX America, the USA’s largest meetings industry trade show. Held in Las Vegas from 10 to 13 October, Australian industry had the opportunity to meet and conduct business with international business events planners from the incentive and association sectors. During the three-day event Tourism Australia held 14 group appointments and collectively the stand hosted 199 appointments and generated 91business leads, demonstrating the tangible results of attending trade shows in market.

The latest edition of Australia Next, an inspirational magazine tailored for incentive business events planners, was launched in October. The magazine, which forms part of Tourism Australia’s business events marketing strategy to inspire and drive awareness of Australia’s business event offering, is emailed directly to customers and promoted across a trade media program in South-South East Asia, New Zealand, United Kingdom and North America. In this edition, business events planners will hear from two international planners about their recent visit to Australia, discover the spectacular landscapes and cultural experiences of Darwin and the Top End on a three-day program pitch and uncover experiences that make the most of Australia’s great outdoors. Famils generate business for Australia
To consolidate confidence in Australia’s business events offering and promote the wealth of new product available, Tourism Australia recently hosted agents and corporates from Indonesia and customers from Amway Asia Pacific on famils in Australia. Attendees from Amway Asia Pacific enjoyed tailored visits to destinations around Australia and a gala dinner in Brisbane/Meeanjin, where they had the opportunity to meet and network with Australia’s industry leaders. Whilst delegates from Indonesia experienced new product in Melbourne/Narrm and Hobart/nipaluna, including Mรถvenpick Hotel Hobart and The Lume Melbourne. Collectively, the famils generated 10 new business leads for Australia.

Tourism Australia’s business events public relations strategy continues to drive demand for Australia through earned media coverage in business events trade publications. Since the start of the new financial year, 112 items of media coverage have been secured, with a reach of more than 629,000. Highlights include coverage on the 2022 Business Events Consumer Demand Project secured in Meetings Today, CMW and AMI; interviews with Robin Mack on sustainability in C&IT and legacy with The Iceberg; and coverage on the recent North America famil in Prevue, which features Australia on the front cover. Team update

LC Tan, based in Tourism Australia’s Shanghai office, has recently been appointed to Regional Business Events Director for Asia. A valuable member of the business events team for more than 10 years, LC’s role has been extended to cover business events in South-South East Asia in addition to North Asia. As part of her remit, LC will work closely with customers across the region and industry who have representation in these markets to increase consideration of Australia.

We would also like to welcome to the business events team Bella Howe, who has been seconded into the role of Marketing and Communications Manager, based in the Sydney office. Prior to joining the team, Bella was the Global Campaigns Manager for Tourism Australia and led the international B2B and B2C marketing for Wine Australia, focusing on the United Kingdom, United States and China markets.
