| TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE | Last night the Federal Government handed down its 2020-21 Budget which included significant support for the tourism industry. Further details on what this means for industry are outlined below. Tourism Australia welcomed the announcement last Friday on the establishment of a Safe Travel Zone with New Zealand (NZ), which will enable NZ citizens and residents to travel to New South Wales and the Northern Territory from Friday 16 October 2020. As things progress, and more states and territories come on-board, Tourism Australia will look for opportunities to highlight the incredible tourism experiences that are on offer to lure as many New Zealanders across the Tasman as we can. | | Federal Government hands down budget | Last night the Federal Government handed down its 2020-21 Budget. The Federal Budget includes $231.6 million for Tourism Australia in 2020-21 to help drive the recovery of tourism industry in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis through targeted and strategic marketing initiatives. The Budget also includes a $250 million investment into regional Australia to encourage more Australians to travel and experience a home-grown holiday. Read more here. | | | | |

| | Tourism Australia Webinar | The next Tourism Australia webinar will be held on Tuesday 13 October at 11am AEDT. Tourism Australia’s Managing Director, Phillipa Harrison, will give an update on the recently released 8D audio videos and share the latest information on the upcoming domestic campaign. The Australian Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Senator the Hon. Simon Birmingham, will also join the webinar to give an update on the Federal Budget. | | Financial support for tourism businesses | Export Finance Australia is the Government’s export credit agency, which is helping tourism businesses looking for support to navigate the impacts of COVID-19 including accessing working capital, bank guarantees, or a cashflow boost. | | ATIC’s COVID Clean program gains global tick | The Australian Tourism Industry Council’s (ATIC) COVID Clean Practicing Business Program is now recognised by the World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) ‘Safe Travels’ stamp. Industry can receive the WTTC ‘Safe Travels’ stamp upon completion of ATIC’s COVID Clean Practicing Business module. The COVID Clean Program is a practical program tourism business can complete to show they are undertaking COVID-clean operations. | | | | Crowne Plaza returns to Sydney CBD | After a 10 year hiatus, the Crowne Plaza returns to the Sydney city. | | Tasmania’s Mona Foma dates announced for 2021 | Mona Foma – Mona’s Festival of Music and Art – will go ahead in January 2021 with events in Launceston and Hobart. Taking place over two weekends guests can expect a unique program filled with creativity hosted at quirky venues. Tasmanian artists are expected to headline. The first weekend will be held in Launceston from 15 to 17 January and the second in Hobart from 22 to 24 January. | | Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary Opens | A new sanctuary for koalas has opened on New South Wales’ Central Coast. Located at One Mile, the new Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary is purpose-built to not only care for sick, injured, and orphaned koalas but also allow visitors the opportunity to see and learn about these iconic native animals in their natural habitat. The new facility includes a visitor centre, koala hospital with state-of-the-art features, café, glamping options for overnight stays and an elevated viewing platform with a treetop perspective into the koala’s natural habitat.
