I’ve managed to get out and about myself over the past few weeks to Queenstown and Wellington, with plans to visit more regions over the coming weeks and months. My trip to Queenstown coincided with the opening of the local ski fields – a positive step on the road to recovery for the region. I was able to connect with so many people on the ground who have been doing it tough over the past few months and hear their stories. This information is incredibly valuable - it helps inform our work here at Tourism New Zealand and we also share it with Government to help inform their response. It was heartening to hear that the support we’ve been providing through our domestic push and the Tourism Advisory Support Service has had an impact. Hundreds of businesses have registered to receive advice and support through the Tourism Advisory Support Service. It’s completely free and is there to help you transition through this period. I highly recommend you take advantage of it if you haven’t already. To help us learn more about the New Zealand market and Kiwis’ views on holidaying at home, we recently undertook a domestic sentiment study. We’re hosting a webinar next week to share the insights of this research and explain how you can use these to ensure your business is best placed to tap into the New Zealand market. Last week, we launched the next phase of our Do Something New, New Zealand campaign to encourage Kiwis to explore their own backyard this winter. The campaign showcases all the incredible things there are to see and do in New Zealand at this time of year. Operators wanting to leverage the campaign can do so using the free and easy-to-use toolkit we’ve created – more on this below. We’ve been having a great response to our webinar series and this is something we will continue to build on so please let us know if there are any topics you would like us to cover off in future. This week our offshore trade managers are providing an update on each of their markets. As we head into week two of the school holidays and the ski season, we expect to see an increase in Kiwis and their families out exploring Aotearoa, I do hope this has a positive impact on your business.
