Kia Ora THE

If managed well the visitor sector has the ability to enrich New Zealand and the lives of New Zealanders. To achieve this we need to work together and create strategies and strong initiatives. There has been huge progress in this space in the last two weeks alone.

An initiative that encourages domestic and international travellers to act as guardians of our home was launched last week. Tiaki – Care for New Zealand seeks to preserve and protect our people and place and it's been fantastic to see the industry and wider New Zealand embrace it. We want to see all New Zealand operators sharing Tiaki - Care for New Zealand with their customers, which is why we have made all the collateral, including posters and videos, available free of charge to all.

You can get behind the Tiaki Promise by using #tiakipromise on social media and downloading the full suite of assets from our visual library. Tiaki – Care for New Zealand will be integrated into a lot of the work we do as time goes on, including our upcoming responsible camping campaign which we'll share more about soon.

This week the Government released a draft tourism strategy that sets out how we will manage challenges and make the most of the many opportunities the sector delivers. The strategy is out for consultation until 4 February 2019. I encourage you all to have a read and share your feedback.

Complementing the strategy nicely is the refreshed Tourism 2025 & Beyond growth framework launched today at Tourism Industry Aotearoa's Summit event. The framework recognises that growth needs to be managed well and how industry has a responsibility to balance the needs of our visitors, our communities and our environment. TIA is now seeking feedback on the draft.

It's an exciting time to be in the sector with Government, industry and the public and private sectors working in collaboration to ensure the visitor sector gives more than it takes for our country and our people.

I look forward to talking more about these at the Tourism New Zealand Roadshow events next week.

Ngā mihi,

Stephen England-Hall

Chief Executive, Tourism New Zealand
