Welcome to our final newsletter of 2018. It's been a dynamic year for the sector, with a range of initiatives like the draft Tourism Strategy and the Tiaki Promise being announced. These will help ensure the tourism economy continues to enrich New Zealand for years to come. As we head into summer I am looking forward to seeing how the Tiaki Promise positively influences traveler behaviour. If you haven't already, I encourage you to get behind the Tiaki Promise by displaying the posters and talking to visitors about it. You can download the collateral at tiakinewzealand.com. Our roadshow with Google and Figure.NZ was due to wrap up in Queenstown this week, but the weather had other ideas, with a cold snap preventing us from getting there. I was really looking forward to seeing everyone there and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. We will reschedule the event in the new year. The first three events went extremely well, you can view a video of the presentations in the story below. We all know summer is a busy time for the tourism sector in New Zealand with Kiwis and visitors taking the opportunity to explore the country. During this time it's important that we, alongside industry and central and local government, continue to work together to ensure the sector is managed well. This peak we are running two campaigns that seek to protect and preserve the country and our people. The first seeks to educate visiting drivers about our roads and the other encourages responsible camping. Find out more about the campaigns and the resources that will be on offer for you to help us promote safe and responsible travel behavior this summer below. | | I wish you all the best for a safe, enjoyable and prosperous summer season and look forward to seeing you all in the new year. Ngā mihi, | Stephen England-Hall Chief Executive, Tourism New Zealand | | | |
