This is a fantastic card to have if you live in a city with lots of United service, fly them regularly but not enough for elite status, or you're an elite who wants upgrades on award tickets or help towards the spending requirement for status. In fact the benefits of this card are surprisingly strong for the fee.

Delta Wants Employees to Sleep on Planes During Storms

Winter is a rough time for the US travel industry all around. Business travel dries up and hotel occupancy falls. That's not good for airlines either. Leisure travel is heavy around the holidays, and among passengers looking to escape the cold, but weather wreaks havoc across the system.

The standard public offer for the main United credit card from Chase has let you earn 40,000 miles. More miles have mostly been available on a targeted basis. And the card has usually had its $95 annual fee apply straight away in the first year.

However Chase has come out with the biggest public offer I've ever seen for the UnitedSM Explorer Card.

Looks Like 5/24 is Expanding to My Beloved Hyatt Visa

Hyatt re-launched their credit card in the middle of the year and I took my old one out of the sock drawer, quickly upgraded to the new version, and have worked to put about $30,000 spend on it so far. That locked in my top tier elite status for the year.

Thus far the card has not been subject to Chase's "5/24" (where they don't approve you if you've had more than 4 new cards in the last 24 months). I reported in June that this was likely to change. Now there are several data points suggesting 5/24 now applies to this card.
