The growing tourism economy presents significant opportunity for New Zealand, so it's great to see a range of initiatives and events taking place to ensure the country is tourism ready.
Next week's Tourism Export Council (TEC) conference is themed 'Future Proofing our Industry'. The programme is full of thought-provoking presentations and workshops about sustainability and innovation. I'm excited to have the opportunity to speak alongside industry leaders and I look forward to being part of the discussions about how we can work together to create a sustainable tourism economy.
Another upcoming initiative on the tourism calendar that supports sustainable industry growth is the New Zealand Tourism Awards. Led by Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA), the awards showcase tourism businesses that are doing great things to support the growth of the industry. The finalists were announced last week – find out who is in the running here.
Tourism New Zealand's July roadshows to update the industry about our work and showcase the many opportunities the tourism sector presents have now wrapped up. The events invited local government, investors and the technology sector to present alongside us and were well attended by industry and beyond. You can see the full presentations on our website.
Last week we sent out a survey asking attendees to provide feedback so we can refine our November events that will be held in other locations across the country. Your feedback is really important in shaping our next events so please take the time to tell us what you thought.
I hope to see many of you at the TEC conference next week.
Ngā mihi,
Stephen England-Hall
Chief Executive, Tourism New Zealand
