Kia Ora THE

We are increasingly talking about the importance of telling the story of tourism to help New Zealanders understand how the international visitor economy benefits Kiwis. Our growing cycle trail network, greater hospitality options and cheaper international airfares are all benefits of the visitor economy at work.

This week I saw the story about the Real Journeys mentoring scheme where they are using launch masters nearing retirement to formally train and informally mentor the next generation of skippers. I also saw the story about Haka Tours and EatNZ winning funding to create 'clustering' tourism experiences aimed at attracting international visitors to New Zealand in off-peak seasons. They are both excellent examples of how the industry is working to make New Zealand a better place for Kiwis. We need to keep telling these stories, beyond our own industry, so that all New Zealanders get a better understanding of the value and contribution of tourism.

The information that international visitors tell us about their experience in New Zealand also helps us tell the tourism story, and provide important insights that help with our ultimate goal of increasing the value of visitors to New Zealand. The latest International Visitor Survey data helps industry to continue to deliver a great experience and identify new opportunities. At Tourism New Zealand, we have used the information to create useful infographics for industry. Find out more below.

Our work in the premium sector is another important way we are increasing the value of international tourism. We have done a lot of work to foster and develop this market and we are seeing some great results.

New Zealand is becoming something of a private retreat for the elusive billionaires who can travel wherever and whenever they want. You can read more about this below.

Have a great week everyone.
