Kia Ora THE

I've had my feet under the desk as Tourism New Zealand's chief executive for two weeks now and it's been a great journey so far.

The staff at Tourism New Zealand are fantastic and they've made me feel very welcome. There's clearly been a lot of hard work going on in the last few months. A recent highlight has been securing some major coverage for New Zealand through one of Brazil's biggest travel shows. The eight New Zealand episodes are a real coup for the team, especially our Brazil based staff – see more about the show in the story below.

There's a lot of important conversations going on in the sector that I'm keen to be a part of. I've managed to catch up with the Tourism Minister Paula Bennett, TIA CE Chris Roberts and had a meeting with government tourism CEs. It's clear that everyone is rowing in the same direction and want to see tourism continue to succeed while maintaining the support of New Zealanders.

It's going to be a busy time over the next few months but I'm looking forward to meeting more of you as I get around the country.

The first chance to meet you will be at TRENZ. I will be speaking on the first day and look forward to meeting many of you as I get around the exhibits.

The leadership team will also be visiting a number of cities around the country as we draw closer to the new financial year. More information about these events will be included in Tourism News over the coming weeks.

It will be great to get around New Zealand and see the excellent work you all do.

Stephen England-Hall

Chief Executive, Tourism New Zealand
