| | | | | | TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE | As we continue to rebuild international tourism to Australia, the return of key events will play a significant role. Next Monday, the Asia Pacific Incentives and Meetings Event (AIME), the flagship trade event for the meetings and event industry in the Asia Pacific region, will get underway at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre. This is well timed for Australia as we welcome the return of international events and the reopening of China, where we are really ramping up our business events activities. AIME 2023 will also see the event celebrate its 30th anniversary and I look forward to catching up with the Australian business events industry whilst I’m there as we continue to put Australia’s best foot forward as a world-class business events destination to international decision makers and media. Then on Friday we welcome the start of Sydney WorldPride 2023, from 17 February to 5 March, a supersized festival of 200 plus events that incorporates the much-loved experiences of the annual Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. Over the course of 16 days, the festival will include a broad program of events across the arts, sport, theatre, concerts, parties, First Nations programming along with a human rights conference. The festival theme - ‘Gather. Dream. Amplify.’ – will see Sydney/Warrane and Australia welcome LGBTQIA+ people from across the globe to honour our elders and communities, acknowledge our connections, and empower each other to celebrate together in new ways. It promises to be a great event and no doubt will deliver a significant tourism boost both in the immediate and longer term.
