| | | | | | TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE | Kung Hei Fat Choi! I wish you all the best this Lunar New Year, the year of the Rabbit. As I mentioned last week, at Tourism Australia we are winding up the full breadth of our activities to welcome back travellers from China. Whilst we expect it to take some time for numbers to bounce back to 2019 levels, last week’s announcement by many of China’s major airlines that they are re-establishing their routes to Australia is very welcome news. The return of airline seat capacity will be key to recovery, something which may be spurred along by today’s news around a significant increase in Chinese students coming back to Australia. I would like to offer my congratulations to members of our industry who were included on the Australia Day Honours list for 2023. The late Stephen Gregg AM for his significant service to the Queensland tourism industry. Also honoured were George Booth OAM, Helen Edwards AM, and Wendy Cutting OAM. The events industry was well represented with Gregory Hood OAM, Gregory Bowman OAM and Anthony Bastic AM recognised. You may have seen, the Best Australian Beaches 2023 were announced over the weekend. The list is pulled together by beach expert and Friend of Australia, Brad Farmer AM, who has spent over four decades researching and visiting Australia’s beaches. Find out more about this below.
