| | | | | Business Events Australia Update | Since our last update, it has been pleasing to see there have been several announcements that signal positive steps towards the recovery of the business events industry. Vaccination rates have been steadily increasing, resulting in the ease of restrictions in New South Wales (NSW) and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), with Melbourne coming out of lockdown this Friday. The Australian Government announced its plans for reopening Australia to the world, with Australian citizens and residents, who are fully vaccinated, able to travel internationally in November. And last week, the NSW Government announced returning Australian travellers, with a TGA approved vaccine, will not have to quarantine. While it’s difficult to predict exactly when our borders will reopen to key international markets, we’re excited by this news. And, we’re especially looking forward to activating our marketing strategies for reopening to optimally position Australia as a world-class destination for when travel resumes and we can once again welcome back international business events in the near future. Unsurprisingly, 77 per cent of businesses claim to have postponed or cancelled at least one event that was scheduled for June to October 2021. One in five of these businesses claim they re-scheduled their event within the next three months, whilst most have rescheduled 4 to 12 months from now. Concerns about the COVID-19 safety reputation of potential event locations, health concerns, and interstate borders are amongst the top influencing factors to events resuming. However, encouragingly 81 per cent indicate they are planning events one to two years from now, up 6 per cent from May. Fifty-eight per cent of decision makers planning to hold events in the next 18 months or sooner indicated an increased desire to get back to face-to-face events, whilst overall decision makers remain largely positive in terms of the planned budget and number of attendees of future domestic events.
