TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE

Over the weekend some of the Tourism Australia team were privileged to attend the Garma Festival 2022 on Gumatj Yolngu Country in Northeast Arnhem Land. After two years of COVID-19 cancellations the festival was able to be held once again and celebrate and showcase Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. The Prime Minister also attended the event and announced further details aligned with the government’s promise to implement the Uluru Statement of the Heart.

At Tourism Australia we see tourism as providing an important pathway towards reconciliation, and an opportunity to showcase and elevate the significance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and traditions within our workplace, across the tourism industry and amongst our visitors. We launched our fourth Reconciliation Action Plan in May 2021. The Plan outlines Tourism Australia’s vision for Reconciliation as one where the cultures and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities are embraced as central to Australia’s identity; and that all Australians feel proud of connecting with 60,000 years of storytelling, resilience and innovation.

This weekend coming, we look forward to reconnecting with our North American industry partners at Australia Marketplace North America 2022. The event kicks off in Los Angeles on 7 August and includes two days of pre-scheduled appointments between buyers and sellers as well as networking opportunities.
