TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE

Another long weekend has seen a continued surge in travel around the country, as we celebrate domestic aviation levels now being higher than they were pre-pandemic. Australians are exploring their own backyards more than ever, and international visitors are reminding themselves of what they have been missing out on. It was also great to see over the weekend people coming back in force to ANZAC day services across the country, as we remember our service men and women. It was a timely reminder as we open up to the world, of what the Australian spirit is built on.

Last week New South Wales, Victoria and the ACT relaxed their COVID isolation rules, with the Northern Territory, Western Australia and South Australia now following suit. These changes coupled with the lift of the biosecurity emergency pandemic measures on 17 April, all help support the recovery of our industry as we emerge from the pandemic.

Last Friday we held our Industry Webinar if you missed the update, you can watch a recording here. Our next webinar will be held on Friday 27 May at 11am AEST. Register to attend here.

Spotlight on the Regions – North America
‘Discover A Great Deal More’ with Tourism Australia’s Virtual Travel Fair

Since Australia’s reopening, there has been an incredible surge of demand from the South and South East Asia region. Forward bookings for Singapore are currently doubling 2019 figures, while in Malaysia, Indonesia, and India, 60 to 80 per cent of bookings are for travel in the next three months*, demonstrating strong consumer confidence.

To convert pent-up demand, facilitate aviation recovery and help Australian tourism return to pre-pandemic levels, Tourism Australia launched its ‘Discover A Great Deal More’ virtual travel fair on 21 April 2022 seizing the popular May and June travel periods. Running until 15 May with validity for 12 months, the fair features 36 airline, online travel agency (OTA) and key distribution partners across the region with an array of travel offers on flights, hotels, tour packages, car rentals and experiences, all of which consumers can find on Australia.com. The campaign, worth more than $1 million, is being promoted via out-of-home, radio, online, print and social media activations and so far is generating a reach of 65.7 million and reminding audiences that Australia is indeed ‘Yours to Explore’.
