TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE

Over the past week there have been further positive signs that life in Australia is starting to return to something like normal, with Victoria recording no new COVID cases for the fifth consecutive day and the announcement that the border between New South Wales and Victoria will reopen on 23 November. Whilst there is still a long way to go, this is very encouraging news and further endorsement of Australia’s effective handling of the global pandemic.

Our next webinar will be held this Friday 6 November 2020 at 11am AEDT and will include a special focus on Indigenous tourism in the lead up to NAIDOC week. We will be joined by Andrew Smith, Chief Executive Officer of the Worimi Local Aboriginal Land Council, which includes Sand Dune Adventures; and Mark Olive, a Friend of Australia and renowned Indigenous chef to hear their perspectives. I will also be sharing consumer insights update for international audiences, and our CMO Susan Coghill will give an update on our domestic campaign and other marketing activities. Register here.

Naidoc Week 2020
NAIDOC week 2020
NAIDOC week celebrations are traditionally held around the country each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. however was postponed to November due to the impacts and uncertainty surrounding COVID-19. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. NAIDOC originally stood for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’. This committee was once responsible for organising national activities during NAIDOC Week and its acronym has since become the name of the week itself. This year’s theme is Always Was, Always Will Be. This recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for the continent for over 65,000 years.
