| | Take a bow New Zealanders. A big part of the Lions tour success was down to amazing Kiwi hospitality. The incredible welcome extended to the 20,000 plus Lions fans that travelled the country for six weeks was manaakitanga at its very best. As the fans left their camper vans and headed to the airport they had nothing but praise for the people they met and the places they visited. Will they go home and talk to their mates about the fantastic time they had in New Zealand? Yes they will. The Lions tour was a demonstration of exactly what we are trying to achieve - visitors travelling to different parts of the country in our off-peak months. From an economic point of view, it's too soon to say just how much the Lions tour generated for New Zealand, but Auckland alone estimates the tour was worth around $26m to the city. At Tourism New Zealand our focus was working with the international media to tell the New Zealand story, away from the rugby field. The results are still coming in but so far we have recorded 118 tourism-related stories in leading publications and broadcasts, mainly in the UK. To buy that kind of coverage would cost an estimated $3.7m. Our campaign work is in full swing with our new global campaign launching last week and our North Island touring campaign went live in Australia yesterday. Read more about it below. | | I recently visited our offices in Asia and next week I will be in the US meeting key stakeholders and TNZ staff in our third biggest market. It's a key market for us and I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone. | Stephen England-Hall Chief Executive, Tourism New Zealand | | | | | | | |
