Actions in place this summer to protect and preserve our home

This summer is shaping up to be a stunner with a range of initiatives in place to ensure tourism enriches our home and our people.

This month a campaign has gone live to support responsible camping. It encourages campers to plan their journeys, use the facilities and leave no trace. Please support the campaign by utilising the posters and video that you can download free of charge. Find out more here.

The responsible camping campaign follows the recent launch of Tiaki – Care for New Zealand. Since launching in November, Tiaki – Care for New Zealand has been received extremely well with a significant number of industry embracing it and a huge amount of positive media coverage on and offshore. We are keen to hear your thoughts on Tiaki to help inform how we amplify it in 2019. How you are using it (send us pictures), what would make it easier for you to use and how has it been received by visitors. Please send your feedback to comms@tnz.govt.nz.

This summer we are also running a visiting driver safety campaign. The campaign digitally targets and educates visiting drivers using social media. It includes messaging about driving on the left, preparing for varying driving conditions, taking regular breaks and allowing enough time for travel.

Our work this summer will be supported by the Government's $8.5 million investment to support the camping system and a Department of Conservation (DOC) campaign that guides behaviour on the DOC estate.

Together we are seeing significant action put in place to ensure the many benefits tourism delivers are balanced with protecting and preserving our home for future generations. If you have any questions about this activity please email comms@tnz.govt.nz

Have a great summer.

Ngā mihi,

Stephen England-Hall

Chief Executive, Tourism New Zealand
