The Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE24) 2024

The 44th edition of Tourism Australia’s premier event, the Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE), will conclude tomorrow in Melbourne / Narrm. This year, the event, held in partnership with Visit Victoria at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre kicked off on Monday, 20 May. During the event 1,500 members of the Australian tourism industry will meet with 714 global tourism wholesalers and retailers across around 50,000 one-on-one business appointments. ATE24 also provides international buyers with the opportunity to experience Australia’s tourism offerings first-hand through familiarisations.

With the number of international travellers arriving on our shores edging closer to the levels experienced in 2019 the business created at ATE24 will be crucial to the future of the Australian tourism industry. We are confident this is the year we will return to those 2019 levels so we can stop referring to that benchmark and once again focus on the sustainable growth of our industry which we experienced in the decade leading up to the pandemic.

Events like ATE are crucial to helping us achieve that as it brings global tourism wholesalers and retailers from around the world to Melbourne to hear from Australian tourism operators about the experiences they have to offer.

ATE24 Highlights

ATE24 Media Program
The ATE24 Media Program took place from Friday 17 May and concluded on Monday 20 May. This year, the media program included a Showcase of State and Territory Tourism Products at Zinc, Federation Square and International Media Marketplace (IMM). At IMM, 79 international and domestic media met with 83 Australian tourism businesses, special interest operators, attractions and accommodation providers over one-on-one appointments at The Ritz Carlton Melbourne, before celebrating with an evening event at Reine & La Rue. The full program included familiarisations hosted by Visit Victoria.
Victoria shows why they are ‘Every Bit Different’
More than 900 delegates had an incredible night, celebrating all that Victoria has to offer at the Visit Victoria Buyer Showcase held on Tuesday evening. Spanning across three levels of the iconic Hotel Esplanade in St Kilda, guests were given a taste of some of the different bits of Victoria that make for an amazing visitor experience. The event’s themed areas included a brewery featuring some of the best local brews, a cellar door with offerings from regional wineries, an oyster bar, grazing table and market experience, as well as an Eastern flavours area, live music in the band room and a special installation from Rone’s Timeless exhibition.
Australian Tourism Exchange Aviation Program 2024
Tourism Australia’s dedicated Aviation Program continued at ATE24 for a fourth year. The Aviation Program aims to help Australia’s international airports and international airlines (based in Australia and overseas) develop stronger connections and greater integration into the Australian tourism industry. From 20 to 21 May, Tourism Australia welcomed 32 airlines, 17 airports, all eight state and territory tourism organisations, Austrade, aviation consultants and the University of NSW School of Aviation - more than 110 delegates in total. The program also included an Aviation Breakfast Update and a Team Australia Aviation networking lunch.
