TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE

Our Tourism industry are the lifeblood of so many communities around the country, and this is particularly so for those towns and communities in regional Australia. Therefore, Tourism Australia was proud to support the ATIC Top Tourism Town Awards held last week at Parliament House in Canberra. This year the Top Tourism Town Award went to Mandurah in Western Australia, the Small Tourism Town Award was taken out by Queenstown in Tasmania, the Tiny Tourism Town Award was awarded to Dwellingup in WA, and Rosanna Angus was named the Top Tour Guide for her work sharing stories of Bardi Jawi culture and the Dreaming stories connected to Sunday Island, off the coast of the Kimberley region in WA. You can read more about the awards and the winners here.

This week Friend of Australia Dylan Alcott AO announced the Shift 20 Initiative, focused on increasing disability representation, inclusion and accessibility in Australian advertising. Tourism Australia is a proud founding partner of the initiative alongside some of Australia’s well-known brands. Read more about the initiative below and I encourage you to register for our September Industry Webinar to hear from Dylan firsthand.

Tourism Australia ACTIVITY
Tourism Australia joins the Shift 20 Initiative
Australians with disability make up almost 20 per cent of the population (4.4 million people). Yet in advertising, they are only represented one per cent of the time. The Shift 20 Initiative is a collective of brands working to increase representation of Australians with disability. Tourism Australia as a foundation partner will focus on improving the representation of accessibility and inclusivity in our tourism industry – and demonstrate the positive benefits inclusion of people with disability can have on brand reputation and commercial outcomes. Learn more about the Shift 20 Initiative and how you can get involved here.
