Click here 25 July 2023 Kia ora, My thoughts are with those affected by the tragic shooting event in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland last week and I would like to recognise the efforts of the emergency services for their response. The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ has officially kicked off with the Football Ferns taking home a win against Norway. Tourism New Zealand are leveraging the tournament to showcase destination New Zealand to the up to two billion football fans watching the game from home. Our Beautiful Game content is performing well above target, generating over $16 million in estimated advertising value in key markets. I’d like to acknowledge our four host cities – Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, Kirikiriroa Hamilton, Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington and Ōtepoti Dunedin and the significant effort they have put into extending manaakitanga to our international football fans. International arrivals data also continues to show positive signals with 160,359 arrivals in May 2023, that's 73% of May 2019 arrival numbers. 56,000 of arrivals were holiday visitors, around 60% of pre-covid levels. Recently, I joined the New Zealand business delegation to China. China remains an important visitor market and the visit was a fantastic platform to showcase destination New Zealand. You can read more about the visit here. Lastly, I’d like to thank everyone who joined our engagement hui series last month. It was great to see to connect with your some of you in person and be able to share Tourism New Zealand’s direction for the next year with you all. After the hui we surveyed attendees, thank you for your feedback. This information is incredibly valuable to help us understand what you are interested in hearing about from us. As always - if you have any questions, feedback, or want to get in touch with myself or one of the Tourism New Zealand team, please contact us. Ngā mihi,
New Zealanders Views of Tourism Report Alongside partners, Tourism New Zealand undertakes research to understand New Zealanders views on tourism. The purpose of this is to ensure we understand how Kiwis are feeling about the sector and to share this with agencies where any action might need to be taken to address any concerns. Save the date: Kiwi Link Japan and Korea Kiwi Link events provide tourism operators the opportunity to connect with buyers in our key markets. Dates for Kiwi Link Japan and Kiwi Link Korea are now confirmed. More information and an event prospectus will be added to the Events page in the near future. • Kiwi Link Japan: 11 and 12 March 2024 Changes to New Zealand’s traveller declaration Travellers arriving at selected New Zealand international airports will be able to complete a digital declaration from July 2023. Travellers arriving into Christchurch, Wellington and Queenstown airports are able to complete a digital declaration. Travellers arriving into Auckland Airport will be able to complete a digital declaration later in August 2023. We’ve been working closely with offshore trade to share this information so travellers are aware. Survey on sustainability to inform Industry Transformation Plan The Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (MBIE) are running a survey to better understand how tourism businesses view, consider and are approaching environmental sustainability. This research will be used to inform the Tourism Environment Industry Transformation Plan. The survey is confidential and should take 7 to 10 minutes. MBIE are also accepting expressions of interest for their Innovation Programme for Tourism Recovery fund. The fund is for projects that will have meaningful impact across the tourism system. Applications close 1 September 2023. |
