Kia Ora THE

The Tourism Export Council Conference last week was a great event that created a forum for the sector to talk about the importance of planning for the future.

Now, more than ever, we are seeing and hearing aligned thinking and vision about the future of the visitor economy in New Zealand. This is fantastic, because it's only through alignment and collaboration from the industry, government and private sector that we can achieve a tourism economy that enriches New Zealand.

Over the next five years, international visitor spending is forecast to deliver about 40 percent of NZ's growth in export earnings. If we have the right blend of investment structures, business incubators, support systems, infrastructure solutions, education programmes, government policy and coordination as well as strong alignment on what matters to Kiwi's most this growth will have a significant positive effect for New Zealand.

Tourism New Zealand is playing an increasing role in supporting New Zealand get destination ready through data sharing. Data driven decision making is the key to addressing the challenges we are facing in the sector and something Tourism New Zealand does every day through choosing how we invest in our markets and how we choose to speak to potential visitors.

Over the coming months we will be increasing this work and providing greater visitor insight to help guide government and industry decision making and investment.

The great turnout to our emerging markets webinar last week is a sign that the sector and beyond is hungry for solid data and we look forward to sharing more of this.  If you missed out on the webinar you can access the information we shared in the story below.

Ngā mihi,

Stephen England-Hall
