The isolation that made St. Barts, St. Martin, Anguilla and the Virgin Islands vacation paradises has turned them into cut off, chaotic nightmares in the wake of Hurricane Irma.
Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean are delivering supplies to St. Maarten and St. Thomas. Plus, Royal Caribbean is transporting stranded tourists in St. Maarten to Puerto Rico.
The hurricane destroyed Necker Island, damaged Eden Rock Hotel and caused St. Thomas' Sugar Bay Resort enough damage to close it for the rest of the year.
The administration is reportedly considering an overhaul of the program, which allows more than 300,000 visitors, mostly students, to work temporarily in the U.S., often in seasonal and remote tourist areas.
