| | I attended my first Tourism Export Council conference in Te Anau last week where the discussion was about how to manage continued growth in the tourism sector. It was great being able to have this conversation openly with industry and I thoroughly enjoyed networking with everyone who attended. You can view our presentation here. Tourism continues to flourish and the conversation at central and local government level is about how to maintain the economic benefits tourism provides to local communities while also maintaining local support. MBIE data shows that international visitors are continuing to rate New Zealand very highly as a destination, with 96 per cent saying their trip met or exceeded expectations. But we know that these results are influenced by the great Kiwi hospitality they experience when here, which is why the support of the public is so important. International visitor arrival data released this week shows holiday arrivals from our largest source market, Australia, are continuing to grow steadily. More than 590,500 Australians came here for a holiday in the year ending June 2017, up 8.9% on last year. To support continued growth, we recently conducted image testing in Australia to find out what kind appeal to this audience. Images portraying our unique landscapes and coastlines performed well.
