As the subject line suggests, I just had another baby back in June, and this pregnancy was… hard. Adjusting to being a new mother of two and a content creator has been challenging.
(If you want to watch my video summarizing my pregnancy and birth story)
I live in Canada, where the typical worker can take 12 to 18 months of paid maternity leave. (in the USA, you're lucky if you get 6 weeks—unpaid. Which is ridiculous.. but that's a topic for another time.)
In a traditional job, you would take maternity leave, and upon your return, your job would be waiting for you. Even as a CEO, chances are the company would have done just fine without you during your absence.
However, it's a lot different when you are a content creator. Many creators, including myself, are self-employed, so we do not qualify for paid maternity leave.
Furthermore, there's a harsh reality: you can't take a break without it hurting your channel. Currently, there's no way to "pause" your channels for a break. The moment you stop posting content in the social media world, you start to fade from the algorithms.
So, what's a creator to do? Ideally, never take a break. But sometimes life hands you lemons—in my case, this pregnancy was one of those times.
But there is a silver lining: people love comeback stories. There are ways to build yourself back up after a break. Instead of worrying or regretting my time off, I've allowed myself this break and started planning my comeback. This planning process is empowering, allowing me to return feeling refreshed, with more creative fuel to continue posting. And for that reason, it's worth it!
That's exactly my plan, and once my experiment is complete, I'm excited to share all the results and methodology with you.
So, I am happy to be back and can't wait to share all the exciting things I've been planning during this time!
