TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE

As the world opens up, initiatives to drive international demand and visitation back to Australia keep coming.

This week, Tourism Australia launched a new campaign in New Zealand to encourage Kiwi travellers to book their next big holiday in Australia, now that two-way quarantine-free travel has resumed across the Tasman. Don’t Go Small, Go Australia will remind New Zealanders whether they are dreaming of discovery or looking to reconnect with loved ones, Australia is the ultimate destination for their next big adventure….so they should come and say G’Day. Come and Say G’Day - Don’t Go Small. Go Australia is a global campaign which has already rolled out in some of our key tourism markets around the world, including the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France and Italy.

In other exciting news, we also welcomed a major announcement from the Qantas Group. The airline has confirmed it is pushing ahead with ‘Project Sunrise’, which would see direct flights from Australia (Sydney) to New York and London. The plan is for these flights to start before the end of 2025, and to make the non-stop long-haul flights possible Qantas is overhauling its fleet and has confirmed an order of 12 Airbus A350-1000s. Making it easier for travellers to make the decision to book and plan a holiday to a major gateway like Sydney, will benefit the whole country as travellers arrive and disperse to other cities and the regions.

New Zealanders encouraged to choose Australia for their next big holiday

Tourism Australia has launched a new campaign in New Zealand to encourage Kiwis travellers to book their next big holiday in Australia, now that two-way, quarantine-free travel has resumed across the Tasman. Come and Say G’Day - Don’t Go Small. Go Australia launched on Sunday, 1 May 2022 to remind New Zealanders of all the incredible experiences that await them in Australia for their next big break.

Pre-COVID New Zealand was Australia’s second largest source market for international visitation and fourth most valuable for spend. Of the 3.1 million New Zealanders who travelled internationally during 2019, 1.4 million travelled to Australia.

BEA highlights Australia’s credentials as a sustainable business events destination
Tourism Australia’s specialist business unit, Business Events Australia (BEA), was the major Sustainability Sponsor for the Society for Incentive Travel Excellence (SITE) Global Conference, held in Dublin from 20 to 23 April 2022, and attended by more than 300 delegates from around the world. Tourism Australia’s Regional General Manager for the UK/ Northern Europe, Sally Cope, joined the Sustainability Masterclass panel to discuss Australia’s credentials as a sustainable business events destination and facilitate a session on sustainability to encourage meaningful conversations with SITE Global members.

The April Hot List and the Luxury Hot List
Tourism Australia has released its latest travel ‘Hot List’ for April 2022, available now on its corporate site. The guide to the latest news and tourism offerings across the country is updated monthly. A new ‘Luxury Hot List’ has also been released. The luxury edition will be produced quarterly, with a wrap-up of new places to stay and experiences to enjoy around Australia.

G’Day German media!
Tourism Australia in Germany hosted two ‘Welcome Back’ media events in Munich and Hamburg on 24 March and 28 April.
Along with Tourism Australia, event partners including Tourism Northern Territory, Tourism Western Australia, South Australian Tourism Commission, Visit Victoria and Tourism Tasmania shared news and updates to 25 media and provided many ideas for story angles as German media plan their next research trips to Australia. The collective approach and Australian hospitality were well received and appreciated by German media.

Seller applications open for Australia Marketplace North America 2022

Applications are now open for seller participation at Australia Marketplace North America 2022, to be held in Los Angeles, USA from 7 to 10 August. The event includes two days of pre-scheduled appointments between buyers and sellers as well as evening networking opportunities. A limited number of sellers who meet the targeted criteria can apply to attend Marketplace LUXE, a third day of pre-scheduled appointments with targeted business events and luxury buyers.

A new heart stopping experience has arrived at Optus Stadium in Perth/Boorloo. VERTIGO allows thrill-seekers to walk several metres beyond the edge of the stadium roof with no handrails. Offering stunning views of the Swan River and Perth skyline, the hands free 90-minute experience is the first of its kind in Australia. The package includes a branded hat and a printed group photo.
