Business Events Australia Update

As the final newsletter for the year, I am pleased that we are approaching the end of 2021 with Queensland and Tasmania this week reopening their state borders and the Western Australian Government announcing the state will reopen on the 5 February 2022.

During the short time I have been in this role I have witnessed the incredible resilience of Australia’s business events industry and while 2021 was a difficult year for so many, and there will no doubt be challenges ahead, we are hearing positive sentiment from the industry, with optimism for events in 2022 and beyond.

Heading into the new year, Tourism Australia will continue to adapt and maximise every opportunity to support the business events industry. In the domestic market we will launch the latest iteration of the Event Here This Year campaign and the next wave of domestic research. Internationally, we’re focused on fast tracking recovery and optimally positioning Australia as we reopen with targeted marketing, distribution and partnership activity that will drive conversion and support a healthy pipeline of future business for Australia.

Wishing you all a happy holiday season and I look forward to connecting in the new year and continuing to deliver a collaborative program of work to position Australia for long term growth.

Sustainability partnerships
Driving awareness of, and capability for, a sustainable tourism industry is defined as a strategic priority for Tourism Australia. As part of this work, Tourism Australia’s specialist business events unit has partnered with SITE (Society for Incentive Travel Excellence) as the sustainability sponsor for their signature event, SITE Global Conference, to be held from the 27 to 31 January 2022 in Dublin, Ireland. The annual event for the global community of incentive travel professionals provides members with the opportunity to connect, learn and to shape the future of the industry. During the event, Tourism Australia will speak to the breadth and quality of sustainable products and experiences on offer in Australia, promoting this as a key selling proposition to international business events planners. In addition to this, Business Events Australia has also partnered with the SITE Australia and New Zealand Chapter for their Incentivise Live event in February 2022, which will include a sustainability focused activation by renowned TEDx presenter and Friend of Australia, Joost Bakker.
