| | | | | TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE | Monday was a landmark day for Australia’s tourism industry, and the Australian economy more broadly, as we started to open internationally with quarantine free travel between Australia and New Zealand. Whilst we can of course expect more bumps along the way, let’s hope open borders can be maintained as the COVID-19 vaccination program continues to roll out. Last week we announced a series of measures to support the business events industry in growing the opportunities for future domestic and international business events activity, which is such a critical part of our overall visitor economy. You can read more about these measures below. This Friday, 23 April at 11am AEST, we will be hosting our next industry webinar. I will be giving an update on all of Tourism Australia’s recent activity, plus sharing recent insights and trends as well as a particular focus on the Singapore market. Our Regional General Manager for South & South-East Asia, Brent Anderson, and Lau Hui Ling, General Manager, Brand and Marketing, Singapore Airlines will both give updates. Register here for the webinar. From swimming with dolphins off Kangaroo Island, exploring the alleyways of Melbourne, wine-tasting in the Margaret River region or discovering Canberra by boat and hot-air balloon, the series highlights that Australia is a destination that offers something for every interest, passion or taste. At a time when so many in the northern hemisphere are unlikely to be able to travel long-haul in the near future, it’s the perfect time to remind them of why Australia should be the destination they plan for first once it becomes possible again. | | | | | | | | | | Western Australia industry briefings | Tourism Australia is hosting an industry briefing in Perth from 4pm to 6pm on Thursday 6 May 2021 at The Ritz Carlton, Elizabeth Quay Ballroom. A collaboration between hospitality heavyweights Matt Whiley (Scout) and Maurice Terzini (Icebergs Dining Room & Bar; CicciaBella), Re is built from the ground up to be one of the world’s best bars, with the kind of drinks program Whiley has made a global name on, supported by Terzini’s signature tone and style. Re isn’t calling itself zero-waste from the get-go, rather, it sees itself as a model for the industry; reframing how bars talk about, and act on, sustainability and waste. More than anything, Whiley wants to demonstrate that a venue can be built from recycled materials and run with as little impact as possible, and still exist as a fun, world class experience. For more information on this incredible venture, visit the website. | | | | | | | | | | | |
